Our Methodology

How we approach every engagement.

Each engagement at Ayutthaya Counsel begins with a conversation — not a form. Before any document is drafted, we take time to understand what a client holds, how they hold it, who they wish to benefit, and whether there are any particular sensitivities or complications that the plan will need to address.

We match the engagement to the circumstances. A client who has never documented their wishes and holds modest Thai assets requires something quite different from a family with property in two countries and complex inter-generational considerations. We do not apply the same template to every situation.

1.

Initial Consultation

We discuss your situation without charge to determine what is appropriate.

2.

Scope & Fee Agreement

We confirm the engagement in writing, including a fixed fee, before any work begins.

3.

Drafting & Review

Documents are drafted, reviewed, and refined in consultation with you.

4.

Signing & Completion

Witnessed signing is arranged and completed documents are handed to you.

Folio I

Estate Plan Outline

A short written document that describes the simple components of an estate plan — what assets exist, how they are held, who would benefit under current arrangements, and what alternative arrangements might be considered. The deliverable is presented in plain prose so the reader and their family can consider matters together.

This engagement is suited to individuals who have not previously documented their wishes, or who want to understand their current position before deciding whether more formal documentation is needed. It does not produce a will or legal instrument — it produces a clear written map of where you stand.

  • Plain-prose summary of current asset position
  • Overview of who would benefit under current arrangements
  • Explanation of alternative arrangements available
  • Written in English, readable by family members
  • Completed within two weeks of initial consultation

Folio II

Mid-Sized Estate Documentation Package

A staged engagement that prepares a will, a power of attorney for use during incapacity, and a short letter of wishes addressed to the person's family. The work includes a structured conversation about the client's intentions, two drafting iterations, and witnessed signing arranged at the office or another suitable location.

Suited to individuals and couples whose holdings include real estate, savings, and small business interests. This engagement is typically completed in four to six weeks from first consultation to signing.

  • Thai will prepared and witnessed
  • Power of attorney for incapacity
  • Letter of wishes addressed to family
  • Two rounds of drafting included
  • Signing at office or suitable location
  • Typically 4–6 weeks to completion

Folio III

Multi-Jurisdiction Family Estate Programme

A multi-month engagement for individuals whose holdings span Thailand and other jurisdictions, covering separate Thai and overseas wills, inter-generational planning conversations, and the formation of holding vehicles where useful. The work includes liaison with overseas counsel, written family memoranda explaining the structure, and a final review meeting to record the position.

Suited to families with substantial cross-border holdings — particularly those with property in two or more countries, significant business interests, or complex family structures spanning multiple generations. The programme typically runs three to six months.

  • Separate Thai and overseas wills
  • Inter-generational planning conversations included
  • Holding vehicle formation where appropriate
  • Liaison with overseas counsel (included)
  • Written family memoranda explaining structure
  • Final review meeting to record completed position
